tree of the family Dipterocarpaceae
フタバガキ科(Dipterocarpaceae)
二つの羽根が生えた実(di=2, ptero=羽根, carp=実)をつけるdipterocarpus属に由来する。
東南アジアの熱帯雨林で最も優占している種類。特にボルネオ島に多いが、ニューギニア島では少ない。優良な材を作り、ラワン材として日本にも沢山輸入されている。

鯛を和英辞典で引くと「a sea bream」と出ている。
